The West Alabama Highway will create a four-lane divided highway connecting Mobile and Tuscaloosa. The project has been promised by the state’s political leaders for decades as a way to help promote economic development, job opportunities and connect West Alabama residents to essential services.

Design and preconstruction began in late 2023 with onsite construction expected to begin later in 2024 once design is complete. The project will be constructed in phases with segments opened as they are completed. Check back here for further updates as more progress is made.

Public meetings will be held throughout the construction process and details will be announced in the future. Please check back or sign up for email updates to be notified when the next public meeting is scheduled.

An initial round of public meetings about the West Alabama Highway was held in December 2021 in Thomasville, Moundville, Linden and Greensboro. Residents were given the opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions and express their opinions.
